Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety & Depression

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural reaction to stress and is manifested as a feeling of fear or apprehension about the future. Although the body uses this anxiety to help protect you from possible harm, in the modern rush of today’s society, where high-stress lifestyles are increasingly the norm, the body can start to produce anxiety when you don’t really need it. If the feelings of fear start to interfere with your normal daily life, such as making you fear leaving the house or talking to other people, or if you have symptoms for longer than six months, you may have an anxiety disorder.

What is depression?

Depression is a prolonged feeling of sadness, gloominess, negative attitudes, discouragement, despondency, despair, and hopelessness. Causes of depression can include but are not limited to:

  • Relationship conflicts
  • Loss of loved ones
  • Unemployment
  • Serious illness
  • Major life events
  • Medication or drug use,
  • Other personal problems.

Symptoms of depression include lack of interest in life, lack of motivation, fatigue and lack of energy, isolation and social withdrawal, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, and wanting to cry without reason. If you experience these symptoms, you may be suffering from depression.

How can acupuncture and Oriental medicine help with anxiety & depression?

Acupuncture and herbal medicine can help to supplement other treatments for depression and anxiety, such as support groups and therapy, expediting the overall recovery process. Many of the patients at 120 Acupuncture Clinic report that while it takes time to find long-term relief for anxiety and depression, the relaxation of acupuncture treatment helps them very soon after they start.

If you are suffering from anxiety or depression, make an appointment today. Dr. Ko and our friendly staff can help you find relief.
