The hamstring is a group of three muscles that run along the back of one’s thigh and allow the leg to bend at the knee.
Hamstring injuries are typically caused by:
a) lack of flexibility
b) insufficient warm-up exercises
c) activities involving rapid acceleration such as running
Improperly designed workouts can cause hamstring strains, so a proper warm-up is needed to prepare the muscles for sprinting. Make sure to warm-up and stretch properly before exercising, paying attention to muscle strength and flexibility.
A hamstring strain is different from temporary muscle pain in that it is considered a serious injury. As such, the injury needs to be taken seriously and patience must be exercised in the healing process. As soon as pain permits, it is important to begin a program of stretching and range-of-motion rehabilitation exercises. It should be emphasized, however, that an early rehabilitation program does not mean quickly returning to normal, pre-injury activities. Furthermore, depending on the severity of the injury, the entire rehabilitation process may take several months.
To speed up recovery, we recommend acupuncture in conjunction with herbal medication as treatment. A combination of the two will accelerate the healing process. There are many acupuncture clinics and acupuncturists in California, but not all of them can adequately treat this injury. At WELLNESS ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC, we are confident that we can make a remarkable difference in overall improvement with just a few treatments.
